Shabu Way
2011 was a very stressful year for most of us, so my girls and I headed for the Terraces to check for a place to hang out and dine. After thoroughly scouring the place, we finally settled for Shabu Way. I was thoroughly excited as I am such a sucker for anything Japanese, and I have never tried Shabu-Shabu before, though I know how to do it. Shabu-Shabu is actually an onomatopeia which was meant to signify the sound that the meat makes while being swished in the pot. Japanese love onomatopeias. Maybe we all do. Anyway, I took too many pictures that I forgot that we went there to eat. =(

The Place:
You can find Shabu Way at the 2nd Floor,Ayala Terraces. I don't know how to accurately describe the place, without sounding like a little child. It feels like one of though old fashioned Chinese Restaurants here in Cebu that we went to a lot when I was a kid. Though the food was good, I didn't like those places much because they intimidated me. Too many old Chinese guys looking at you and obviously taking about whatever you're doing....in Chinese. Tsk, tsk. Anyway, this place kinda gives me that feeling, minus the intimidating factor. Anyway, the place was really clean and well kept. The interiors are really nice, long tables enough to accommodate a number of guests. They also have comfortable looking couches and a flower centerpiece.
Since it's a Shabu-Shabu, it has heated-pot-like-things at the middle, it's supposed to be the Nabe pot, I guess. The place is actually okay, but, I don't know, I just can't shake the feeling of me not liking it at all.

On a different note, the staff are really quite professional and friendly. They were really patient enough to wait for us to finish making up our minds for our orders. 16 women deciding on what to eat, not a good idea. They also put up with our noise. Being girls, we giggled and gaggled the whole time! The noise was overwhelming!
The Food:
I can't remember what we ordered exactly, but I believe we ordered the Seafood, Pork and Beef platters. They were really good! I loved looking at the thinly sliced meat. They looked so inviting.
Unfortunately, most women in the group did not know how to do Shabu-shabu (Good thing I had my Japanese training.. hahaha), so I decided to take the reigns. The pretty restaurant staff poured some stock on to the Nabe pots and let the broth simmer for a bit.
We then added the veggies and we let those soften. We added a dash of pepper, some salt, and a little Shoyu (Soy Sauce). Swish time!
We also ordered some Maki. I just can't remember what they were. I believe we had California Maki and Tuna Maki, I think.
It was really good. Too bad we didn't have a lot of meat slices. I think 3 platters weren't enough.
The Price:
I believe the price range would be from 200 up. I'm not quite sure as we got ours by discount vouchers we got from Ensogo. Hehehehe. We only paid about 150 per voucher.

The Verdict:
3 stars out of 5.
Shabu-shabu is actually a great experience, but I don't think I'm wanting to do it a lot. It's a once-a-year kind of thing for me. The place is great, food is good and I believe you should try it at least once. Shabbu way would really be a great place to start.
Till the next review!
