Wandering 1: The Lantaw Experience

Review Disclaimer:

This is a review post. The reviews I post on my blog are from my personal, unbiased opinion; I try the food I review so I will be basing my review on the experience I had with the food. Again, the review will be based on my experience, which may differ from yours. I will, however, welcome any comments on my reviews. Lantaw Floating Native Restaurant

I work in a Technical Support Account. Those in Tech Support would understand how stressful our lives are. Heck, even in sleep, we still murmur instructions on how to do a Ping test. So, we decided to unwind a bit and head out to the salty sea to eat at a very interesting new place called Lantaw Floating Native Restaurant. Lantaw is an archaic Visayan word meaning: verb -- "to look" or noun -- "view". I usually hear old people say that word, or people from rural provinces. I don't fancy using it, though. It just sounds so awkward. But it sounds delicious to me now. Hahaha.

My team and I (along with the husband) headed out to Lantaw on a rented Van. You would not believe how hungry we were by the time we got there! Believe me, talking non-stop for an hour dries your saliva and makes you more prone to looking for anything to put in your mouth.

The Place:

Lantaw is located at Day-as Wharf in Cordova. Being a Native Restaurant, the whole place is made to look like Nipa Huts; complete with bamboos, Cogon roofs, and the front half of a local Chariot jeepney. Don't get me wrong though, it may be made to look like the native huts here, but it really has a modern twist with a chic feel to it. They have these chic green couches which really adds a modern touch to the whole place.

Chic couches. So lovely!
See those bamboo clumps in the middle? Those become lamps at night.
I also love how they added lights to the tips of a couple of bamboos that they clumped together. It looked really amazing! Made the atmosphere a lot more romantic.

With the team!
They just recently added a separate hut. This one is floating(?), not quite sure, but its separate from the whole place, so you have to cross a short rope bridge to get to it.

Rope Bridge

It's really nice for events where you have larger number of people and you want to be separate from the rest of the crowd.

Separate Hut. Great for group outings!
View of the main platform from inside the cottage. Good thing I wasn't wearing green.

The Food:

They have a very Filipino menu, which I love, love, love!

Me, or the food? Of course the food!
I couldn't name everything here, but they do have the standard fare, lechon kawali, crabs, pinakbet, and the lot.

What should we choose... Hmm.. Decisions, decisions..
We went ahead and ordered their Garlic Butter Shrimps, Baked Scallops, Pinakbet, Lechon Kawali, Garlic Crabs(?), Calamares, Pancit Canton, Fresh Oysters (Talaba), Panga sa Tulingan, Gambas, and the famed Bakasi, which Cordova is known for.

Panga sa Tulingan

Garlic Butter Shrimp. This is soooooooo good!

Calamares. I do not like Calamares without the mayo dip!

Sauteed Crab (?)

Fresh Oysters (Talaba)

Gambas

I can tell you, the Garlic Butter Shrimp is to die for! It's totally amazing! I really love the sauce, it goes well with rice. The rest, were, well, so-so. I couldn't really say they were amazing, but they were good enough for the pallet. The cooler that they had was good too, which they served in mayonnaise-bottle-turned-juice-goblet.

I had wanted to get a better photo of this, but I think the owner was too thirsty to wait.

The idea is really good.

The Price:

The prices for the dishes range from 150 - 300 ++, not too bad. Definitely affordable.

The Verdict:

3 stars out of 5.

The ambiance is wonderful; the view is breathtaking, but the food is simply mediocre for me. I really loved the Garlic Butter Shrimp though. Aside from that, everything else is so-so, I've really had better. But you may find your experience different from mine, so I do encourage you to go there. Even just for the ambiance, Lantaw is well worth the trip!

With Neri (so pretty in purple!) and Erika (full black ensemble). I chose to wear shorts. Of all days to wear that, it had to be on the day for Lantaw. Nice work, brain.

Smile for the camera, pretty ladies! ^^
 Till the next review!

Ja ne, foodies! ^^

Directions:

Commuting by Jeep:

If you are from Cebu City, take any jeepney that goes to Mandaue, preferably passes through Hi-Way. Look for a Jeepney that will take you to Opon Terminal. Make sure you ask the driver if the jeepney really goes to the Terminal. Once there, take another jeepney going Cordova. You need to go down at the crossing where you see a building which says Coop (Sorry, I can't completely remember, I'll update this post later). Then take a pedicab going to the Wharf!

Commuting by V-Hire:

Take a V-Hire going to Cordova at the V-Hire Terminal in SM City. Fare would be around 30 - 50. Just ask the driver to drop you off at the crossing. Take pedicab to the Wharf.
